Possession Limits

A possession limit is the maximum number of fish each person may have in possession at any time, other than in their place of permanent residence. It is not a boat limit, a trip limit or a daily limit.

Barramundi

Throughout the Territory (except in the Mary River Management Zone - '2 barra' possession limit) you must not have more than 5 barramundi in your possession at any time.

Minimum size limit for Barra is 55cm

Black Jewfish

The Territory has a personal possession limit for black jewfish. Other jewfish species are not included in the limit. This control reduces fishing pressure and helps to ensure the long term sustainability of black jewfish in the NT. A person must have no more than 5 black jewfish in their possession at any time.

Golden Snapper

Anglers must observe a possession limit of 5 golden snapper per person.

Spanish Mackerel

The Territory has a personal possession limit for narrow-barred Spanish mackerel. Other mackerel species are not included in the limit. A person must have no more than 5 narrow-barred Spanish mackerel in their possession at any time.

General Personal Possession Limit

A person may not possess more than 30 fish or the equivalent of 30 fish whether the fish are whole, trunked, filleted, diced, minced or a combination thereof. This includes both managed species listed above and non managed species.
